Labor Reporting Automation

A construction department ran its weekly labor reporting by hand. I turned it into one click and a review.

The problem

Every week, the construction department ran labor reporting by hand: export the data, send it to the owner and to accounting, then file it by job. Same steps, every project, every week. Nobody had asked for it to change, so it hadn't.

The build

I rebuilt the routine as a one-click Excel VBA automation. It runs the export, the distribution, and the filing, with a human approval gate before anything goes out. Judgment stays with a person where it matters. Everything else is automated.

  1. Export. Pulls the week's labor data for the job.
  2. Review. A person approves before anything leaves the building.
  3. Distribute. Sends the report to the owner and to accounting.
  4. File. Saves it by job, in the same place every time.

The result

It runs across all six active projects and is now the standard template for every future job. A routine that used to eat time every week is one click and a review.
